\t\tEditorial Standards \u24d8<\/a><\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\tU.S. Coast Guard veteran Jodie Knox was welcomed by a cheering crowd to the Eliot-Kittery American Legion on Wednesday as she finished a 42-day bicycle trip that started in Key West, Florida. “I didn\u2019t know if I\u2019d make it here,” Knox said. “If I didn\u2019t, that would have been okay too, but the fact that I did, it\u2019s overwhelming.\u201dShe said she finished without any injuries or flat tires.Knox traveled around 2,100 miles through 15 states to raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warriors Project and Achilles International. She raised more than $24,500 and is still accepting donations online. Those are both organizations that help veterans and people with disabilities find strength and community. After a life-changing accident that altered her mobility, Knox knows firsthand the mental toughness it takes to overcome a challenge. A news release about the bike ride said, “On two wheels, she rediscovered the strength and purpose she feared was lost.”Knox now has a mantra to turn “I can’t” into “I can try.”She said, “Whatever it is that seems hard or impossible, but it\u2019s something you really want, just take a step. Just keep trying, and it\u2019s the trying that\u2019s the fun.
