MIAMI BEACH, Fla. \u2014 Residents at Buckley Towers condos in North Miami Beach are dealing with the aftermath of a string of air-bag thefts after multiple vehicles were targeted.<\/p>\n
Standing in one of the affected areas, the damage stretches across rows of cars. The total reached 19 vehicles.<\/p>\n
Residents described the suspects as \u201cair bag pirates.\u201d<\/p>\n
One resident said his wife called him after discovering their vehicle had been broken into.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was just surprised this afternoon and my wife called and said \u2018do I know what\u2019s happening\u2019, I said no,\u201d said resident Alex Cernabas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe air bag is gone. It\u2019s very expensive. I went to look and on eBay for $750,\u201d Cernabas said.<\/p>\n
Residents said 19 cars in the area were hit, with five vehicles damaged in one section of the parking lot alone.<\/p>\n
The Miami-Dade Sheriff\u2019s Office is investigating.<\/p>\n
One son said he is now helping his mother get to work because her car cannot be driven.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy mom couldn\u2019t go to work. I\u2019m trying to help her with it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Residents say the thefts bring more than just the loss of an air bag, replacing it with insurance deductibles, inconvenience and frustration.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the people that did this are watching tonight\u2026 I hope they go to jail for a long time and get a job. Don\u2019t steal from people that are working,\u201d said Mohammed Hussain.<\/p>\n
Hussain owns the kind of vehicle residents believe is being targeted by the thieves. After learning that 19 cars had been hit, he said he plans to keep a close eye on his vehicle.<\/p>\n
No arrests have been made. Residents said five cars were hit in that parking lot alone.<\/p>\n
