Gilbert, whose best-known bands were Mr. Big and Racer X, is onstage Friday at the Central Park Performing Arts Center in Largo. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are <a href=\"https:\/\/centralparkpac.thundertix.com\/events\/265077\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is an ax-man who\u2019s stood onstage alongside Vai, Satriani and Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert and band are on the road promoting his latest offering, WROC. It stands for \u201cWashington\u2019s Rules of Civility,\u201d meaning President George, and it\u2019s a conceptual album, with vocals, based upon a book Commander-in-Chief No. 1 is historically credited with authoring.<\/p>\n<p>The book, Rules Of Civility &amp; Decent Behaviour In Company And Conversation, was published in the 18th century. Washington based it on a French Jesuit etiquette book originating two centuries earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Allrighty then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really excited to play this music live and see how people enjoy it,\u201d Gilbert says. \u201cI would say WROC is one of the most musical and listenable albums I\u2019ve ever done. There\u2019s very little that came from my fingers. It came from my sense of melody. As I improve as a songwriter, I\u2019ve been trying to connect with that more. I feel like this is the most successful connection to my inner melodic generator, thanks to George Washington and those who went before him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Q and music<\/p>\n<p>Saturday and Sunday brings the Tampa Bay Barbecue Fest to St. Petersburg\u2019s Vinoy Park, from 1 to 9 p.m. Along with plenty of BBQ and brewskies, there\u2019s live music all day, with country music headliners taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday\u2019s performer is <a href=\"https:\/\/stpetecatalyst.com\/bbq-fest-headliner-rodney-atkins-a-curious-bay-area-connection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Rodney Atkins<\/a> (\u201cIf You\u2019re Going Through Hell\u201d), while Sunday delivers Blackberry Smoke (the albums Holding All the Roses and Like an Arrow).
