The brief went to Tihany Design, the New York-based studio behind Aman, Belmond and Four Seasons interiors around the world, and the results were officially unveiled this month after a soft-launch programme that began in January.

For business travellers booking Florida’s east coast, a market that has seen a sharp uptick in lift, room supply and group demand over the past two years, the refurbishment matters for reasons beyond aesthetics. It reframes the hotel as a destination for the after-work hour as much as the boardroom, the kind of programming-led venue brands like W increasingly need to compete with Miami Beach 30 miles to the south.

A bolder living room and a longer happy hour

Inside, the Living Room has been rebuilt around plush blue textures, bespoke lighting installations and statement furnishings, anchored by an expanded bar and a raised DJ booth. The studio’s intent, according to those briefed on the project, was to retain the brand’s signature theatricality while dialling up the sense of place, coastal palettes, tactile fabrics and softer edges than the original 2009-era fit-out.

The space now runs a seven-night programme aimed squarely at delegates and locals alike: a daily Golden Hour from 4-7pm, Industry Night on Mondays, “TEQ the Night Off” Tuesdays from 8-10pm, Game Nights on Wednesdays, “Saber the Sunset” Thursdays, late jazz on Friday and Saturday nights, and a Sunday Spritz session from 1-4pm. Few competitor properties on Fort Lauderdale Beach are programming with that intensity, a point not lost on the hotel’s general management.

The wet deck plays the long game

Five floors above the Atlantic, the WET Deck, billed as the largest elevated pool deck on Fort Lauderdale Beach — has been reworked into a day-to-night terrace in shades of blue, red and beige. New VIP cabanas, bungalows, fresh wet decking and the newly unveiled W Sunrise Lounge join the cocktail offer, with the city’s resident DJs spinning the “Sunchasers” sessions Wednesday through Sunday and a “Rosé All Day” session closing out the week.

The reopening sits within a broader, multi-year W Hotels brand evolution that has seen Marriott steadily refresh its lifestyle flagship around design, music and food and beverage, a strategy Business of Fashion has charted in detail as the brand sharpens its position against newer luxury-lifestyle rivals. The same playbook was used at W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu, which formally opened earlier this year, and at the relaunched W New York – Union Square.

Fort Lauderdale’s competitive set is heating up

The W’s reset arrives at a busy moment for Greater Fort Lauderdale. Omni Hotels & Resorts has opened its new convention-anchor property on the Broward County Convention Centre district, bringing 120,000 sq ft of meetings space to the market, while JetBlue has confirmed its largest-ever Fort Lauderdale schedule, with 113 daily departures and new year-round services to Orlando and Dallas, useful lift for buyers building group programmes into FLL.

Against that backdrop, W Fort Lauderdale’s bet on social-first public spaces, rather than incremental guest-room upgrades, looks well-judged. Lifestyle hotels, particularly in resort markets, increasingly live or die on the strength of their bars, terraces and programming calendars. With Tihany’s signature on the room and a near-nightly events line-up to fill it, the W has bought itself a strong opening hand.

The 422 guest rooms and suites, all of them ocean-facing, remain as before. The story, for now, is downstairs and upstairs, and in the way the property intends to keep both rooms full long after the last conference badge has come off.

 Post navigation

The Marriott-owned lifestyle hotel has handed the keys of its two signature social spaces to one of…

[17
249,251,250
post-279623","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-lauderdale","tag-fort-lauderdale","tag-fort-lauderdale-headlines","tag-fort-lauderdale-news
["GET
