In a release<\/a>, SAO officials announced that the man \u2014 identified as Jacob Devan, 21 \u2014 had threatened to shoot and kill Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey using Facebook messages.<\/p>\nSome of the alleged messages sent to Ivey from Devan\u2019s account on June 14, 2025, are as follows:<\/p>\n
\u201cI will kill you and your family.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll shoot you till you won\u2019t breathe anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI know where you live.\u201d<\/p>\n
Investigators said that a warrant for Devan\u2019s arrest was obtained shortly thereafter, and his mother drove him from their Washington, DC suburbs to Brevard County to turn himself in.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mother said Devan had been upset by comments the sheriff made during a press conference but was ready to take responsibility for his threats,\u201d the release reads.<\/p>\n
At a hearing on Thursday, Devan pleaded no contest to charges of making written or electronic threats to kill, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device, SAO officials added. As such, he managed to avoid trial and a possible prison sentence.<\/p>\n
However, Devan was still found guilty, and a judge prohibited him from owning firearms in Florida and Virginia, the release shows.<\/p>\n
In addition, Devan must complete an anger-management course, work 100 volunteer hours at an animal shelter, and has been barred from using social media during five years of supervised probation, according to the SAO. He will be allowed to serve his probation in Virginia.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you\u2019re thinking of doing something, you\u2019ll be riding here in a van, shackled,\u201d the judge told Devan. \u201cIt\u2019s no fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
