REFUGE\/DDWS
\nThe boardwalk at the J.N. \u201cDing\u201d Darling National Wildlife Refuge’s Bailey Tract is nearing completion.<\/p>\n
The \u201cDing\u201d Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge (DDWS) reported that the J.N. \u201cDing\u201d Darling National Wildlife Refuge will continue work throughout the summer repairing boardwalks on trails that were damaged by Hurricane Ian in 2022.<\/p>\n
The DDWS provided the following updates:<\/p>\n
\u2013 Bailey Tract: Boardwalks are nearing completion and will reopen to the public in early June after federal inspection.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Indigo Trail: Materials to repair the longest boardwalk begin to arrive last week. Staff expect a five-week timeframe to complete the project.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Mangrove Overlook: Work on the boardwalk will begin once the Indigo Trail is completed, tentatively in mid-July.<\/p>\n
The J.N. \u201cDing\u201d Darling National Wildlife Refuge is at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel.<\/p>\n
