gave his thoughts<\/a> on the situation on Thursday in real time, but I can\u2019t help but wonder what was the point of Grady Kelly going in on FSU.<\/p>\nBasically, he seemed offended that Florida State waited until the last minute to recruit him from the transfer portal. He was committed to Indiana, but still signed with Florida State, despite the late offer. So, if he was so offended, why go there? Secondly, there\u2019s a reason they were not spending a ton of time recruiting him in the transfer portal. He was a plan B, C, or D, and seemed to understand that was the case because he mentioned someone had left, which opened a spot.<\/p>\n
Kelly played at Colorado State before transferring to FSU. He left FSU and finished his career at Michigan State. No matter where Kelly played, he wasn\u2019t a difference-maker, averaging about 20 tackles and one tackle for a loss in his two years at the P4 level.<\/p>\n
I could see if Kelly was some major target in the transfer for tons of major programs. That wasn\u2019t the case. FSU waited till the last minute because they figured they could, and they were right. Has that approach backfired with better players? Absolutely, and that\u2019s probably why they\u2019ve had some of the misses in the transfer portal and in high school recruiting.<\/p>\n
However, you can\u2019t be a journeyman or just another guy player talking this. What made these two podcast guys wake up and say, ” Man, we need to interview Grady Kelly?\u201d It\u2019s almost like someone planted Kelly to say some outlandish stuff. Don\u2019t get me wrong, Florida State has had some major recruiting issues under Mike Norvell. However, this isn\u2019t the guy to listen to when it comes to how things work. \u00a0<\/p>\n
I’m curious to see if he pops up on more podcasts now. However, if this was a one time deal(and I don’t see why it wouldn’t be), I’d like to know what went into targeting him of all people. <\/p>\n
