{"id":280735,"date":"2026-05-22T12:19:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T12:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/280735\/"},"modified":"2026-05-22T12:19:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T12:19:09","slug":"florida-cat-fund-in-strong-position-before-hurricane-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/280735\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Cat Fund in \u2018strong position\u2019 before hurricane season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TALLAHASSEE, Florida \u2014 The state-created fund that backs up private insurers in Florida is in a \u201cstrong position\u201d ahead of this year\u2019s hurricane season \u2014 aided in part by last year\u2019s break in big storms and a reduction in losses associated with previous hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p>Details: The Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund, which offers insurance companies reinsurance at prices generally lower than those in the private market, is legally obligated to provide up to $17 billion in coverage.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the fund\u2019s advisory council approved <a href=\"https:\/\/fhcf.sbafla.com\/media\/yrxptutm\/fhcf-may-2026-bonding-capacity-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a new report that spells out the financial health of the fund<\/a> \u2014 and more importantly how much money would be needed in case the state is pummeled by a damaging storm or a series of hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p>The status of the account, nicknamed the \u201cCat Fund,\u201d is important to Floridians regardless of where they live.
