Leer en espa\u00f1ol<\/a><\/p>\nA pair of Hialeah police officers clocked Kevin Brito Rios going 80 mph in a 30 mph zone in a Toyota Supra, but they couldn\u2019t catch up to him in time, according to an arrest report.<\/p>\n
According to the Hialeah Police Department, the wreck happened just before 9 p.m. on Monday as Brito Rios drove south along West 20th Avenue near 76th Street.<\/p>\n
As one of the officers tried to follow Brito Rios, police said he sped off and entered the opposing lane of traffic to overtake other drivers.<\/p>\n
Authorities said Brito Rios failed to take a curve as he sped away from officers, crossed into the opposite lane and hit a Ford Mustang head-on, injuring both people inside.<\/p>\n
Medics took both victims to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. The driver, who wasn\u2019t identified in the report, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead the next day.<\/p>\n
Vehicle data from the Mustang showed that Brito Rios, who remained at the scene, hit the sports car at a \u201cminimum\u201d of 54 mph, according to police.<\/p>\n
Hialeah police went to Brito Rios\u2019 apartment on West 26th Place to arrest him on Thursday.<\/p>\n
As of Friday, Brito Rios was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond listed as \u201cto be set\u201d in online jail records.<\/p>\n
