MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – Surveillance video obtained exclusively by 7News shows a takedown on Miami Beach after, police said, they tracked down a wanted man who burglarized a gas station in the City of Miami.<\/p>\n
Miami Police\u2019s Tactical Robbery Units responded to the area of Ninth Street and Collins Avenue on Tuesday evening in their unmarked vehicles as they boxed in and busted 23-year-old Coral Gables resident Alexis Martinez, as well as two other men.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me see your hands!\u201d an officer yelled.<\/p>\n
\u201cHands! Hands now!\u201d yelled an officer.<\/p>\n
The officers had the men walk backward toward them before being caught and cuffed.<\/p>\n
\u201cBack all the way up!\u201d said an officer.<\/p>\n
\u201cKeep going!\u201d said another officer.<\/p>\n
Moments earlier, just before the arrest, one of the men is seen getting out of the stopped car and trying to cross the street, but another unmarked van pulls up, and officers jump out to take him down.<\/p>\n
He recorded his own video as he was approached and taken down by police. <\/p>\n
The footage of the ordeal was captured on Mitch Novick\u2019s security cameras at his Sherbrooke Hotel.<\/p>\n
\u201cReally captivating,\u201d said Novick of the footage. \u201c[Happened] right under my cameras.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to police, Martinez burglarized a gas station located at North Miami Avenue and 53rd Street.<\/p>\n
The arrest report states the suspect \u201centered the business and approached the enclosed cashier\u2019s window,\u2019 and at one point, he \u201cattempted to force the door open.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the gas station confrontation, employees were attacked, police said.<\/p>\n
One employee sent 7News a photo of his scuffed arm.<\/p>\n
Police said Martinez wore a ski mask and attempted to reach the cash register, but struggled with the employees. All the while, a friend was waiting in a nearby car. When the man found the employees too difficult to deal with, he left empty-handed and fled in the getaway vehicle, according to detectives.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the car headed south toward Interstate 395, and from there, it ended up in Miami Beach.<\/p>\n
But the trip was short-lived, as MPD\u2019s tactical robbery unit soon met them. <\/p>\n
Miami police whacked the car carrying the suspect, then whipped out their weapons and ordered their hands up. <\/p>\n
\u201cBoth of you! Both of you! Hands!\u201d said an officer.<\/p>\n
Bystanders nearby felt the tension on the ground as they took in the show. At one point, a bystander who was recording the action was scolded by an officer for being in the officer\u2019s possible line of fire.<\/p>\n
\u201cGet out of the way!\u201d said the officer to the bystander.<\/p>\n
Later, one of the officers was seen talking to the bystander who was scolded.<\/p>\n
Ultimately, the men were put in the police cruiser and taken to jail.<\/p>\n
Novick said he is in shock about what he witnessed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was great television. I gotta credit the police. They did their job, and it was fascinating to watch,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Martinez faces charges of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct for the alleged unruly behavior at an Ocean Drive business days earlier.<\/p>\n
Bond for Martinez was set at $7,500, and he has since bonded out of jail<\/p>\n
The other two men told officers they had no idea what their friend was allegedly involved in. Police eventually let them go home.<\/p>\n
