FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – A party in Fort Lauderdale involving live music and classic cars kicked off the summer ahead of Memorial Day weekend. <\/p>\n
The city hosted its annual Great American Beach Party at Las Olas Oceanside Park on Saturday as a way to start the summer.<\/p>\n
Attendees at the event shared their thoughts with 7News.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really happy that my mom brought us here,\u201d said an attendee. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s become a tradition for our family, just something to do for the Memorial Day weekend,\u201d said Britni Kurtz.<\/p>\n
Families came out to enjoy all the activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like going on the splash pad and listening to the music,\u201d said an attendee. <\/p>\n
\u201cHow many times have you gone down the waterslide?\u201d asked 7News reporter.<\/p>\n
\u201cTwenty,\u201d said the attendee. <\/p>\n
The event featured vendors, live music, and classic cars. <\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody has a story about it. You know my grandma had one or things like that,\u201d said an attendee.<\/p>\n
Patriotic ceremonies were held at the event, such as a para-commando parachute jump, which landed on the sand.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen they first came down, they were going in circles; they had smoke, so that was really cool,\u201d said an attendee. <\/p>\n
As part of the Memorial Day weekend, the event also served as an opportunity to honor those who served our country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to take the day for what it\u2019s for, and that\u2019s remember them,\u201d said an attendee. <\/p>\n
For many, it\u2019s not just a show, but something very personal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you so much for your service. I can\u2019t say enough, and I\u2019m proud to be an American,\u201d said an attendee. <\/p>\n
The scheduled festivities are scheduled to end around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. <\/p>\n
Those attending the event are advised to keep in mind that there will be heavy traffic, as there are several road closures along the beach.<\/p>\n
