A Florida police department found an unexpected audience online after turning routine traffic stops into a wildly popular video series \u2014 and officials say the videos may actually be helping make roads safer.<\/p>\n
The Coral Springs Police Department has spent the last few years building a following around \u201cTraffic Thursdays,\u201d a weekly series that follows officers as they patrol for aggressive drivers.<\/p>\n
According to CBS Miami<\/a>, the videos have now generated more than 80 million views and helped the department\u2019s YouTube channel surpass 100,000 subscribers.<\/p>\n The concept is simple but surprisingly compelling.<\/p>\n Viewers watch officers conduct real-time traffic stops, issue warnings and citations, and explain the reasoning behind their decisions. Some drivers are let off with warnings, while others receive tickets after dangerous or reckless behavior behind the wheel.<\/p>\n Deputy Chief Ryan Gallagher said the department\u2019s focus on aggressive driving came from concerns about safety and quality of life within the community. He also said the results appear to be measurable.<\/p>\n \u201cThe proof is in the numbers,\u201d Gallagher said, as reported by CBS Miami. \u201cFor 2024 and 25, both years, crashes declined.\u201d<\/p>\n While it is unclear if the reduction in crashes is the result of the videos or if it is due to other factors, the viral campaign has certainly garnered attention.<\/p>\n Officer August Charni, who frequently appears in the videos, said the series gives viewers a chance to see a side of police work many people do not normally witness.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople who don’t know what we do get a first-hand experience on the traffic side of law enforcement,\u201d Charni said, according to CBS Miami. He added that viewers often relate to the frustration of seeing aggressive driving on the road.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen people are watching, there’s satisfaction in people getting caught,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n The online response suggests many viewers agree. Comments on recent videos included reactions like, \u201cHonda boy needs to learn the word accountability,\u201d while another person joked, \u201cGreat way to avoid getting a ticket: Argue with the guy giving the ticket.\u201d<\/p>\n
