NOW, NO CAUSE HAS YET BEEN DETERMINED YET. TONIGHT, RESIDENTS IN CAPE CORAL ARE GROWING FRUSTRATED WITH HOW JAYCEE PARK IS HANDLING THE START OF THE RAINY SEASON RIGHT HERE. YOU CAN SEE MASSIVE PUDDLES STOPPING PEOPLE FROM PLAYING SOCCER OR EVEN WALKING THEIR DOGS. THERE’S ALSO DOWNED TREES AND DEBRIS FROM THE MORE SEVERE STORMS THAT WE SAW EARLIER THIS WEEK. GULF COAST NEWS REPORTER IN A LA GRANDE HERE IS IN CAPE CORAL HEARING FROM FRUSTRATIONS FROM PEOPLE IN THE AREA. >> JAYCEE PARK HERE IN CAPE CORAL IS FILLED. NOT EXACTLY WITH PEOPLE, BUT WITH WATER. AND PEOPLE TELL ME THEY’RE HOPING IT DRIES UP SOON SO THE PARK CAN SURVIVE FUTURE STORMS. I WAS PLAYING SOCCER WITH SOME KIDS FOOTBALL AND IT WAS FUN. AND THEN. IT WAS IT WAS MASK. IT WAS FOR KIDS LIKE 8 IN THE GRASSY FIELDS OF JAYCEE PARK IS A SOFT SPOT FOR PLAYING SPORTS. >> BUT NOW YOU THINK YOU’D WANT TO PLAY NO, NO. ALL WAY TO BEEF. IS TO EAT WHAT WANTED TO DO THAT HE DID RATHER TOSS A BALL AROUND, THEN DODGE THIS HUGE PILE. NOW SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PARK ARE CREWS WERE HERE WHEN THE PARK FIRST REOPENED A FEW WEEKS AGO AFTER IT’S OVER 12 MILLION DOLLAR TRANSFORMATION. YOU CAN SEE WHAT THE AREA LOOKED LIKE BEFORE HIGH WINDS THIS WEEK ALSO KNOCKED OUT THE NEWLY PLANTED TREES. NOW IT’S TAPED OFF AND SURROUNDED WITH CONES. IT’S ALREADY PRETTY BIG. IT SEEMS LIKE IT WILL ONLY GET BIGGER BECAUSE IT IS FULL SERENE. LATER. THE PUTIN MAY NOT LOOK DEEP BUT THE WATER STRETCHES FAR ACROSS THE FIELD. VISITORS ARE ALREADY WORRYING ABOUT THE NEXT STORM SUMMER IN FLORIDA. ALWAYS RAINS. SO IT’S JUST GOING TO BE A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM, I GUESS, THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER. SO THAT’S REALLY UNFORTUNATE. YOU CAN SEE ONE OF THE IRRIGATION SYSTEMS HERE NOT TOO FAR FROM WHERE THE PUDDLE IS. I REACHED OUT TO THE CITY TO KNOW IF THERE IS ONE OF THESE OVER THERE AND TO FIND OUT ANYTHING ELSE ARE PLANNING ON DOING TO MAKE SURE THEY KNEW JAYCEE PAR

Puddles pooling up with the start of rainy season at newly renovated Jaycee Park in Cape Coral

Jaycee Park visitors are noticing the wide puddles pooling in the grassy lawns of the park, sparking concerns over how the area will keep up in the rainy season.

   Updated: 9:49 AM EDT May 24, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Wide puddles now sit in the grass lawns of Jaycee Park, most notably in front of the stage by the waterfront walkway. This comes after the park’s nearly $12 million renovation.Strong winds also knocked out the newly planted trees in the park, which are now sectioned off with tape where the trees and branches have fallen. “I was playing soccer with some kids, and I played football, and it was fun. Yeah. And then, it was, it was. It was massive. It was huge,” Aiden, a park visitor, said. When asked if he would want to play soccer or football in the flooded area, Aiden said, “Yeah. No, no, no. It’s way too big for that. There’s way too much water to do that.”The size of the puddles has visitors like Andrea Fugon wondering how the park will keep up with the rainy season. “It’s already pretty big. It seems like it’ll only get bigger because it is supposed to rain later. Summer in Florida always rains, so it’s just going to be a continuous problem, I guess, throughout the summer. That’s really unfortunate,” said Fugon, visiting with her family.
