Savannah Steel falls to Jacksonville Waves in close game<\/p>\n

Savannah Steel, the Hostess City’s first-ever professional women’s basketball team, faced the Jacksonville Waves for the first time this season, ultimately losing 78-75 after leading by as many as 13 points. <\/p>\n

The Steel trailed early in the game but quickly turned things around. Harmoni Turner found Lauryn Taylor, whose high-arcing shot sank to the bottom of the net, giving Savannah their first lead at 19-18. However, the Steel ended the first quarter trailing 23-19. <\/p>\n

In the second quarter, Savannah regained momentum. Lasha Petree converted a layup, pushing the Steel ahead 40-37. The team outscored Jacksonville by eight points in the quarter, with Petree and Iyanna Moore leading the scoring effort. Moore drained a triple, helping Savannah secure a 43-39 lead at halftime. <\/p>\n

Halftime featured a special guest, WJCL anchor Emma Hamilton, who shared smiles with members of Girls on the Run, a nonprofit organization where she volunteers. <\/p>\n

Back on the court, Savannah extended their lead to as many as 13 points.
