{"id":283315,"date":"2026-05-25T04:22:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T04:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/283315\/"},"modified":"2026-05-25T04:22:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T04:22:13","slug":"florida-attorney-general-takes-on-orlando-state-attorney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/283315\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Attorney General Takes on Orlando State Attorney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Florida Attorney General is taking on the Orlando State Attorney over sweetheart plea deals to violent criminals and saying this neglect of duty must end.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier says Democratic State Attorney Monique Worrell, who serves Orange County and Osceola County in Central Florida, keeps handing out sweetheart plea deals to violent criminals and providing youthful offender status.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/b4370751.smushcdn.com\/4370751\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FLAGJamesUthmeierMoniqueWorrell2.jpg?lossy=2&amp;strip=1&amp;webp=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-274392 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/FLAGJamesUthmeierMoniqueWorrell2-1024x566.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"696\" height=\"385\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Florida AG said that in the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Central Florida, the law does not appear to be the mandate. \u201cState Attorney Monique Worrell is giving violent criminals and murderers, who have no business being in our community, youthful offender status,\u201d Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said.<\/p>\n<p>He then listed numerous Central Florida cases where Worrell\u2019s office gave out plea deals that seemingly benefited violent criminals. In one example provided, the Florida Attorney General says nobody indicted for capital murder should get a sweetheart plea deal for only four years in prison, calling it unacceptable.
