The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to approve a project authorization to add safety improvements to a stretch of Burnt Store Road from Delilah Drive north about 5 miles to Vincent Avenue.<\/p>\n
The improvements include:<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Four-foot-wide paved shoulders on both sides of the road<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0 New right and left turn lanes at Caloosa Parkway<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Rumble stripes on the edge of pavement and center lines<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Required guardrail, roadway signs and pavement markings<\/p>\n
The $3 million agreement is a new task work order to an existing contract with Ajax Paving Industries of Florida LLC, which was the lowest competitive bid. Work is expected to begin in June and be complete in about nine months.<\/p>\n
The project will install safety measures along the remaining two-lane section of Burnt Store Road without impacting the eventual four-lane widening project for that segment.<\/p>\n
Previously, Lee County DOT completed three widening projects along Burnt Store Road:<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Van Buren Parkway to Diplomat Parkway was completed in January 2018.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Diplomat Parkway to south of Tropicana Parkway was completed in April 2020.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Tropicana Parkway to Pine Island Road was completed in early 2021.<\/p>\n
The Florida Department of Transportation in August 2025 completed the Project Development & Environmental study of the northern segment. <\/p>\n
