Over 80 fire rescue units responded to a massive junkyard fire that broke out Monday evening in Opa-locka.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the call came in shortly after 5 p.m., reporting multiple vehicles on fire, near the 13100 block and Cairo Lane.<\/p>\n
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) crews are working to establish additional water supplies while monitoring and addressing hot spots.<\/p>\n
MDFR said the junkyard fire was upgraded from a third alarm to a fifth alarm as crews requested additional resources.<\/p>\n
Officials said<\/a> there have been no reported injuries.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWinds are expected to continue.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Authorities warn residents about smoke in the area<\/p>\n Residents near the fire have received text alerts warning of smoke in the area and advising them to stay indoors:<\/p>\n “Smoke in Area – Remain Indoors Several videos shared by Only in Dade show the massive fire from both the air<\/a> and the ground<\/a>.<\/p>\n The fire spread rapidly<\/p>\n Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Ray Jadallah said the fire escalated to a five-alarm blaze within about an hour as winds pushed embers into a second junkyard and nearby businesses.<\/p>\n MDFR crews worked to secure additional water supplies, including drafting water from a nearby canal to help battle the flames.<\/p>\n Jadallah said a total of three businesses were impacted by the fire.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were tapping into many hydrants, including a canal to draft water,\u201d Jadallah said.<\/p>\n Stay tuned to NBC6 for updates on this story.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
