A South Florida homeowner is dealing with a messy situation. A portion of his backyard has turned into a toilet by the people waiting for the bus. Unable to put a stop to it, he called Help Me Howard with Brandon Beyer.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta has lived in his Coral Springs home for almost 10 years.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a quiet neighborhood, he\u2019s got a cozy pool in the backyard, he works hard to keep it tidy.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cIt\u2019s a great neighborhood, peace of mind neighborhood, across my fence\u2026 no.\u201d<\/p>\n
But he\u2019s dealing with a mess just on the other side of his fence and it\u2019s a dirty one.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cI put up a camera just to see anyone coming onto my yard and that\u2019s when I discovered that people were coming on, waiting for the bus, coming on my yard to urinate and defecate.\u201d<\/p>\n
You heard right. Just a few feet from a county bus stop, behind some trees on Bibi\u2019s property, riders are going to the bathroom while they wait for the bus.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cRight here.\u201d<\/p>\n
And despite a sign clearly telling people they\u2019re on camera and private property.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cThe property line is on the boundary of the actual bushes and trees.\u201d<\/p>\n
He says it\u2019s happening more and more.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cIn the last couple months, it\u2019s been maybe once or twice a day.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s bad enough when he cleans behind his fence, he wears gloves.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cIt\u2019s one of those things where I\u2019m just like \u2018Do I just have to live with this?’\u201d<\/p>\n
Bibi says he doesn\u2019t want people to get in trouble, but he would sure like it to stop.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cYou see people stop on the highway because they have to go, they have to go, I get it.\u201d<\/p>\n
He\u2019s reached out the city and the county, but hasn\u2019t gotten far.<\/p>\n
Howard, how can you stop people from relieving themselves on your property?<\/p>\n
Howard: \u201cIt is illegal to urinate or defecate in public or on someone\u2019s yard, but like the homeowner says \u2018When you gotta go, you gotta go\u2019 and sometimes the answer isn\u2019t the law, it\u2019s practicality, and the government coming up with an alternative to make the area less attractive in terms of a place to go.\u201d<\/p>\n
We reached out to the city and county as well. Both were quick to respond.<\/p>\n
The city telling us, \u201cpolice increased patrol presence and officer visibility.\u201d And the county says they checked out the situation too, and said \u201cthe bus stop shelter and bench were degraded and needed to be removed.\u201d<\/p>\n
And a few days later, that\u2019s exactly what happened.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cThey took down all the metal chairs and the overhang, the railings, everything that was there and then they put it in the truck.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s still a bus stop, but with no shelter and Bibi says there\u2019s a lot less traffic.<\/p>\n
He says he\u2019s seen a huge difference in the last few weeks.<\/p>\n
Bibi Zabal-Eta: \u201cI personally believe that would have never have happened if it wasn\u2019t for Help Me Howard.\u201d<\/p>\n
Glad we could help with that one. The city and the county both also say that the tree line could be an issue as well. They\u2019re gonna look into whether some of those trees should be removed.<\/p>\n
