About 38% of families say they were forced to decide between making a rent or mortgage payment or feeding their household.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspectstrategic.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Aspect Strategic<\/a> conducted the poll on behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/state.nokidhungry.org\/florida\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">No Kid Hungry Florida<\/a>, surveying 1,021 Floridians 18 and up. The survey taken April 14-22 had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019m alarmed by these results, but I\u2019m not surprised,\u201d said Sky Beard, director of No Kid Hungry Florida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe cost of food and essentials remains stubbornly high, and Floridians are really struggling. We continue to hear about tough trade-offs parents are being forced to make, forgoing time with their children to work multiple jobs, or skipping out on medical care to afford enough healthy food. Florida families deserve better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chpk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-746910 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/25JF-7.9.25-FL-Politics-Ads-728X90-V2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">About 74% of Republicans, 89% of Independents and 98% of Democrats say they want Florida elected officials to do more to make sure children aren\u2019t going hungry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of the parents surveyed shared personal stories of living paycheck to paycheck as gas and food bills continued to increase.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe now are in the red every month and using savings to stay afloat,\u201d one St. Lucie dad said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The news release said 70% said their financial situation has suffered in the past year from food prices while 49% surveyed said they have gone into more debt from food costs, which is a figure similar to last year\u2019s debt findings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOver a quarter (27%) have used \u2018buy now, pay later\u2019 (BNPL) plans like Afterpay or Klarna to cover the cost of food,\u201d the new release said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbmaccountabilityfl.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-780964 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/728-x-90.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The poll said 57% opposed, and nearly half 47% strongly opposed the SNAP funding cuts coming from the federal government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSNAP is overwhelmingly viewed as a solution to bridge the gap for families who cannot afford enough food for their families (75%),\u201d the news release said. \u201cMore than 60% believe food assistance programs directly or indirectly benefit Florida\u2019s state economy and local businesses in their area.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A new poll shows 4 out of 5 Floridians are struggling to afford food as the cost of&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":284550,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[88528,120857,28,30,29,575,11271,120858,22306,414],"class_list":["post-284549","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-florida","tag-affordability-crisis","tag-aspect-strategic","tag-florida","tag-florida-headlines","tag-florida-news","tag-food","tag-groceries","tag-no-kid-hungry-florida","tag-poll","tag-snap"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/284549","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=284549"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/284549\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/284550"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=284549"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=284549"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=284549"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
