{"id":284645,"date":"2026-05-26T12:47:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T12:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/284645\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T12:47:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T12:47:12","slug":"little-haiti-celebrates-10-years-since-official-miami-designation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/284645\/","title":{"rendered":"Little Haiti celebrates 10 years since official Miami designation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">MIAMI \u2014 A cultural hub and cornerstone for Miami\u2019s Haitian community is celebrating a milestone anniversary. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Little Haiti on Tuesday marked 10 years since Miami commissioners made a pivotal proclamation officially designating the neighborhood along the Northeast Second Avenue corridor. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The board unanimously approved the designation in 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe are definitely going to focus on that moment, and we have historically been celebrating this each and every year, so for us to be able to do this a decade later, we\u2019re extremely happy,\u201d said Joann Milord, president and CEO of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miami.gov\/My-Government\/Boards-Committees\/Little-Haiti-Revitalization-Trust-LHRT\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.miami.gov\/My-Government\/Boards-Committees\/Little-Haiti-Revitalization-Trust-LHRT\">Little Haiti Revitalization Trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The vibrant district adds to Miami\u2019s rich fabric of diversity. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Creole fills the streets, buildings are coated with colorful murals, authentic cuisine draws crowds and the robust art and music scene continues to thrive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe greatest thing about Miami is about the diversity of the cultures,\u201d Milord said. \u201cIt\u2019s such a way for you to be able to travel the world just by experiencing.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Little Haiti\u2019s history stretches far beyond the last decade. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The neighborhood\u2019s roots date back nearly 50 years after Haitian-born businessman, community leader and activist Viter Juste gave the area its name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Juste moved to Miami in the 1970s and is considered a visionary for helping establish a community where Haitians could live, work and worship.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe have been here for generations, making contributions to the community, through businesses, through the economy,\u201d Milord said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It is a place where traditions have been preserved and are still celebrated today.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udfe0 News From Your Neighborhood<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body__copyright\">Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com &#8211; All rights reserved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MIAMI \u2014 A cultural hub and cornerstone for Miami\u2019s Haitian community is celebrating a milestone anniversary.
