(WLOS) \u2014 A Florida man faces dozens of felony charges after an investigation into a suspected fraud ring in Buncombe County.<\/p>\n<p>Willie Harold Johnson of Monticello, Florida, was arrested May 20, 2026, and charged with six counts each of financial card theft, financial card fraud, obtaining property by false pretenses and identity theft, along with one count of trafficking in stolen identities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/local\/buncombe-county-detention-facility-sheriffs-office-operations-normal-incident\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BCSO REPORTS FRIDAY INCIDENT AT DETENTION FACILITY, OPERATIONS BACK TO NORMAL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Buncombe County Sheriff\u2019s Office said the investigation began Jan. 20, 2026, after detectives received complaints from the manager of the Extended Stay America along Rocky Ridge Road about a group of people booking rooms through a third-party app.<\/p>\n<p>The bookings were traced back to multiple people whose personal information was used to reserve hotel rooms, the Buncombe County Sheriff&#8217;s Office said. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/local\/buncombe-county-sheriff-office-detention-facility-woman-attacked-man-asheville-area-trail-bent-creek-experimental-forest-social-media-post-second-degree-kidnapping-assault-false-imprisonment-emergency-communication-communicating-threats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">MAN ACCUSED OF ATTACK ON ASHEVILLE TRAIL FACES NEW KIDNAPPING CHARGE, NO BOND: BCSO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese types of crimes demand an extensive effort from our Criminal Investigations Division to track down and solve. We are grateful for the months of work our detectives put in on this case that led us to this outcome,\u201d BCSO District 1 Capt.
