TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Thousands of Floridians may experience a restoration of life saving HIV medication. <\/p>\n
The state\u2019s proposed budget, announced Tuesday<\/a>, will allocate $75 million to the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, which includes the return of the widely distributed HIV medication, Biktarvy. <\/p>\n The budget will also reverse all cuts made to the program by the Department of Health earlier this year and restore eligibility to 400% of the federal poverty level, according to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.<\/p>\n Florida Politics: <\/p>\n Advocates of the program say, despite the restoration of funds, lack of affordable insurance will cause HIV cases to spread.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, there is definitely much more work to be done, and in fact, I think the elimination of the premium assistance program will set us back a bit,\u201d Esteban Wood, with the AIDS Health Foundation said.<\/p>\n The Florida Legislature will vote on the budget this Friday.<\/p>\n Funds would be distributed on July1, if the budget passes and is signed into law.<\/p>\n To keep up with the latest news as it develops, follow WCTV on Facebook<\/a>, Instagram<\/a>, YouTube<\/a>, Nextdoor<\/a> <\/a>and X<\/a> (Twitter<\/a>).<\/p>\n Have a news tip or see an error?
