Lutz residents are pushing back against a private school proposal that could increase flooding risks.<\/p>\n
Apex Early Learning Academy is hoping to rezone a 24-acre property near North Dale Mabry and Holly Lane. They want to build a private K-through 8 school that would serve up to a thousand students. But community members warn that Holly Lane flooded heavily during Hurricane Milton and the area might not have the infrastructure for the proposed project.<\/p>\n
Tampa residents are experiencing a shortage of maintenance workers.<\/p>\n
Spectrum Bay News reports the shortage is a nationwide problem and mainly driven by retirements and a limited pipeline of skilled workers. In response to the shortage, the Bay Area Apartments Association is creating a free maintenance training academy. The program opens next month and allows students to be matched with property management companies after completing the training.<\/p>\n
Last week the faculty union for the University of South Florida voted in favor of a new contract with the university.<\/p>\n

The Florida Department of Transportation opened today the new northbound express lanes on I-275 across the Howard Frankland Bridge.<\/p>\n
It extends from 4th street north in Saint Petersburg to just north of the bridge in Tampa and are currently operating at no cost. The southbound express lanes will open over the next few nights. Additionally, FDOT is opening a new 12-foot-wide path for pedestrians and cyclists along the Howard Frankland Bridge. <\/p>\n
