HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — The race to be the next Harris County judge is down to two candidates.<\/p>\n

Unofficial results show November’s general election will come down to Republican Orlando Sanchez and Democrat Letitia Plummer, both former Houston City Councilors.<\/p>\n

Sanchez won his runoff single-handedly. But on the Democratic side, between former Council Member Dr. Letitia Plummer and former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, the race came down to just over 2,500 votes.<\/p>\n

“We won!!” Plummer posted<\/a> to her campaign early Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

She’s told ABC13 she wants to take “an inclusive approach” to Harris County, promoting her priorities, including equal pay, disaster recovery, and jail conditions.<\/p>\n

On the Republican side, Sanchez beat Warren Howell, the president of an insurance company, by nearly 36,000 votes.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted<\/a> to his campaign Facebook Tuesday night, Sanchez wrote in part, “… this is not the finish line. This is the start of the next chapter. Now we come together and move toward November united, focused, and ready to win.”<\/p>\n

Sanchez has said county government hasn’t been working for the community in recent years, pointing to issues like the backlog in the criminal justice system and stalled flood projects.<\/p>\n

So, it’ll be Sanchez versus Plummer in November’s general election for county judge, replacing incumbent Lina Hidalgo, who chose not to seek reelection.<\/p>\n
