Anyone who works in, with or around the local hospitality industry knows how hard summers are for area businesses, and the last two were particularly brutal, as dipping sales led to closures, cutbacks, and concerns for the future.<\/p>\n

To address the issue head-on, the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce is hosting a \u201cSaving Summer\u201d Chefs Circle Forum<\/a>. Hospitality leaders are invited to the three-hour event on Monday, June 1, from 1-4 pm at the Chamber\u2019s offices, 100 2nd Ave N.<\/p>\n

Centered around the theme \u201cSaving Summer,\u201d the three-hour forum will create space for hospitality professionals to openly discuss current industry pressures, explore resources and opportunities, and work toward solutions, advocacy efforts, and actionable strategies for the months ahead.<\/p>\n

Attendance is limited to restaurant, caf\u00e9, and bar owners, managers, and industry leaders. Both Chamber members and non-members are welcome to attend. Seats are limited, so sign up quickly if you\u2019re interested. Registration is required.<\/a><\/p>\n

Local business needs our support<\/p>\n

\u201cNow more than ever, our Chamber is bringing together those who care for and create our hospitality and visitor experience,\u201d said Chris Steinocher, President and CEO of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. \u201cIt\u2019s a critical part of our economy that has faced strong economic headwinds for the past few summers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The hospitality industry is the lifeblood of St. Pete, as we know well here at I Love the Burg. Talking every day with local entrepreneurs opening their doors to the city, we know how much these business owners are putting on the line to bring their dreams to life, as well as how many families throughout the area rely on the success of local business to afford housing, groceries, and everyday needs.<\/p>\n

While St. Pete continues to grow, it\u2019s imperative that local, independent businesses don\u2019t get left behind. The difficult summers in recent years, combined with rising operating costs, have caused serious concern for local business owners and the employees who keep them moving. The Saving Summer event is a response to those issues, and an opportunity to find actionable solutions that preserve the city\u2019s character and prosperity alike.<\/p>\n

The Chefs Circle Forum is being led by Roger Curlin, Director of Business Growth & Engagement for the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. With local leaders in attendance, the forum will have three priorities:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Identifying the current challenges impacting hospitality businesses
\u2022 Exploring available opportunities, partnerships, and resources
\u2022 Developing collaborative strategies, advocacy priorities, and solutions<\/p>\n

\u201cOur amazing restaurants, caf\u00e9s, and bars help create the culinary culture that makes St. Pete special,\u201d said Curlin. \u201cThis industry is under significant stress from multiple directions, and the Chamber is facilitating this program to help identify challenges and curate solutions.
