{"id":288624,"date":"2026-05-29T08:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T08:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/288624\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T08:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T08:08:09","slug":"blue-origins-new-glenn-rocket-explodes-on-launchpad-in-florida-science-and-technology-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/288624\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue Origin\u2019s New Glenn rocket explodes on launchpad in Florida | Science and Technology News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">The incident is the latest setback for Jeff Bezos\u2019s space venture as it seeks to narrow the gap with Elon Musk\u2019s SpaceX.<\/p>\n<p>By AFP, Reuters and The Associated Press<\/p>\n<p>Published On 29 May 202629 May 2026<\/p>\n<p>Blue Origin\u2019s New Glenn rocket has exploded on the launchpad during a test in the US state of Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The incident on Thursday evening is the latest setback for Jeff Bezos\u2019s space venture as it seeks to narrow the gap with Elon Musk\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/5\/25\/why-the-spacex-ipo-is-the-talk-of-wall-street-and-beyond\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended Stories list of 4 itemsend of list<\/p>\n<p>Footage of the incident shows smoke emerging from underneath the rocket before it erupts into a massive fireball that billows skyward, sending a towering plume of flames and smoke into the air.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency crews remained at the scene more than an hour later, but officials said there was no threat from fumes or other potential hazards.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries have been reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe experienced an anomaly during today\u2019s hotfire test,\u201d Blue Origin said in a brief statement posted on X, adding that \u201call personnel have been accounted for\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A hot-fire test is where a rocket engine is fired up while anchored to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate X post, Bezos said it was \u201ctoo early to know the root cause\u201d of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery rough day, but we\u2019ll rebuild whatever needs rebuilding and get back to flying.
