* As recently as this past weekend, Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida responded to scuttlebutt about her looming retirement. \u201cIt\u2019s a crazy rumor, a crazy crazy rumor,\u201d she told Axios<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m almost distraught. It\u2019s not true. I am still planning on running.\u201d<\/p>\n

Five days later, the congresswoman sat down with the Miami Herald<\/a> and confirmed that she is, in fact, stepping down at the end of her current term. Wilson said her claims from days earlier were intended to be \u201cpolitically strategic\u201d in light of Florida Republicans\u2019 redistricting plans.<\/p>\n

Her decision complicates matters in her Miami-area district, where candidates will now scramble ahead of an August primary.<\/p>\n

* In Texas\u2019 closely watched Senate race, Democrat James Talarico picked up an endorsement<\/a> from the editorial board of the Houston Chronicle, which condemned Republican Ken Paxton\u2019s \u201cmoral rot\u201d and touted Talarico as someone \u201cwho\u2019ll stand up for us, who\u2019ll fight corruption, and who\u2019ll bring us together to get our country back on track.\u201d<\/p>\n
