\u201cYou\u2019re just bleeding day in, day out,\u201d Bullitt said.<\/p>\n
Now that students are heading home for the summer break, Bullitt said he\u2019s forced to shutter the popular nightclub after 16 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe spent a lot of money trying to keep the doors open and capital call after capital call for the past year and a half, two years,\u201d Bullitt added.<\/p>\n
It is the latest casualty in Orlando\u2019s declining entertainment district.<\/p>\n
Spectrum News reached out to the city for comment on the closure.<\/p>\n
David Barilla, executive director of the Downtown Development Board and Community Redevelopment Agency,\u00a0issued a statement:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe\u00a0City\u00a0has long supported businesses\u00a0seeking\u00a0to grow and succeed within Orlando\u2019s unique entertainment district, which attracts visitors from around the world. Guided by the Downtown Orlando Action Plan, the\u00a0City\u00a0continues to invest in the evolution of its streets, civic spaces, mobility options, and neighborhoods to foster economic opportunity and strengthen a thriving, connected community. Through these significant investments, downtown Orlando has been revitalized into the vibrant neighborhood and economic hub it is today. The\u00a0City\u00a0remains\u00a0committed to shaping a downtown that is safe, welcoming, and supportive of local businesses, particularly amid today\u2019s challenging economic climate.\u201d<\/p>\n
But Bullitt believes that\u2019s of little consolation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s kind of just letting it burn in a sense\u2026 And, unfortunately, the small businesses, the nightclubs are the ones that are suffering from that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Bullitt owns several other bars and clubs in Downtown Orlando, including Poppy Smash and The Basement. Right now, he said there\u2019s no plan to close any of his other establishments or to relocate The Attic.<\/p>\n
