{"id":289648,"date":"2026-05-30T01:32:27","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T01:32:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/289648\/"},"modified":"2026-05-30T01:32:27","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T01:32:27","slug":"approved-budget-includes-19m-for-florida-poly-growth-and-student-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/289648\/","title":{"rendered":"Approved budget includes $19M for Florida Poly growth and student success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Included in the <a href=\"https:\/\/mynews13.com\/fl\/orlando\/news\/2026\/05\/29\/lawmakers-approve-florida-budget-of--114-5-billion\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">now-approved<\/a> state budget is $19 million for <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapoly.edu\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Florida Polytechnic University<\/a>, funds earmarked for the school\u2019s continued growth and student success initiatives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The funding aims to help Florida\u2019s youngest member of the state university system continue to grow and enhance its student success programs, which are also aimed at supporting the school\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Of the funding, $10 million is included in the budget for Florida Poly\u2019s new Student Achievement Center. With the latest infusion, legislative support for the new Center has reached nearly $28 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new Student Achievement Center is designed to serve as a hub for student support and engagement, providing a variety of services and resources to support academic success, career planning, professional development and other engagement opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The $85 million project will include a 138,400-square-foot facility.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moffitt.org\/taking-care-of-your-health\/taking-care-of-your-health-story-archive\/digital-pathology-in-cancer-care-for-rural-communities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-794634 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Moffitt_FL-Politics-Digital-Innovation-Programatic-Ad_728-\u00d7-90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFlorida Poly has become an important driver of student success and economic development in our region,\u201d said Sen. Colleen Burton, who represents part of Polk County. \u201cThe Student Achievement Center will strengthen that role by providing students with the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive in today\u2019s fast-changing world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This year\u2019s $10 million allocation to the new Center follows the Legislature\u2019s previous $12 million investment last year and $5.7 million in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The approved budget also includes $7.5 million in nonrecurring funding for the school\u2019s \u201cRising to 3,000\u201d initiative supporting the school\u2019s goal to reach 3,000 students by 2030. The Legislature also slotted $1.5 million for operational support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis investment is a powerful vote of confidence in the role Florida Poly plays in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medical education and workforce development. We are grateful to the Florida Legislature and our local delegation for their continued support and belief in our mission,\u201d Florida Poly President Devin Stephenson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThese funds will help us expand opportunities for students, strengthen our campus, accelerate our growth and prepare the next generation of solution seekers, problem solvers and tech leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flapartners.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Floridian-Partners-Ad-1_728x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-283055\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Added Rep. Supporting the University\u2019s growth means investing in opportunities that will help drive progress across our state for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Florida Poly\u2019s Board of Trustees sees the latest investments as a significant step in supporting the university\u2019s next phase of development and institutional advancement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFlorida Poly\u2019s trajectory has never been stronger,\u201d Board Chair Beth Kigel said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWith growing enrollment, expanding academic programs, stronger industry partnership and bold plans for the future, the University is poised to reach new heights. These resources will help boost that momentum and further establish Florida Poly as a premier destination for STEM+M education, research, and discovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the Legislature has approved the upcoming state budget, it remains subject to line item vetoes by Gov.
