I don’t think anything could’ve prepared me for what was actually inside just directly across the street from me,” St. Clair said.

According to St. Clair, she made multiple calls reporting concerns about the animals. In a 911 call placed months before the rescue, she reported hearing several dogs inside the home and said she feared something was wrong.

Authorities later discovered more than 30 dogs and cats living in deplorable conditions inside the residence. Several animals were found dead.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office arrested Traymon Carr on 38 counts of Aggravated Cruelty to a dog, cat, or horse and 3 counts of Cruelty to Animals. Carr has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting a mental health evaluation.

Among the organizations that responded to help was Jak’s Second Chance Rescue Ranch in Cabot. Director Jenny Bridges said the rescue effort remains one of the most difficult experiences of her career.

“It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Emotionally. Mentally,” Bridges said.

Many of the rescued animals have since recovered and found permanent homes. One of them, a dog named Annie, is now living with a family of her own.

According to Bridges, all but four of the rescued animals have been adopted.

“They just needed that chance to get out and get care, which was only possible because of the community who donated and really showed up for us,” Bridges said.

The property has since been purchased by a new owner, Clayell Christy, who oversaw the demolition of the home Wednesday.

For St. Clair, watching the structure come down marked the end of a painful chapter for the neighborhood.

“I really never thought I would see the resolve of it,” St. Clair said. “Sometimes it still takes my breath away when I walk out and it’s not happening anymore.”

While the home is now gone, rescuers say the animals’ recovery serves as a reminder of the impact community members can have when they speak up and take action.

The criminal case against Carr remains ongoing.

JACKSONVILLE, Ark.
