Ever since she can remember, Julianne Gioscio has had a passion for art. It\u2019s her \u201coutlet.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, life has taken Gioscio in many different directions. She spent some of her career as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Marine Corps.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Now Gioscio is preparing to pursue her hobby professionally. She is planning on opening Sunshine City Paint, at 909 Central Avenue, next month.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The concept revolves around painting experiences with a \u201csip\u201d element. Beer, wine and seltzers will be available.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gioscio, who served in the military for five years, has dreamed of being an entrepreneur. Opening a painting studio, she added, is a \u201cfull circle\u201d moment. It\u2019s her art of choice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Currently, Gioscio is preparing the 1,154-square-foot space. She explained that Sunshine City Paint is \u201cwarm and welcoming to beginners.\u201d Whether people come in with family, friends or by themselves, it\u2019s an opportunity to \u201ctake a moment\u201d away from everyday life and enjoy art.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Customers will be able to select from blank canvases or canvases with premade designs such as flowers and animals. They can spend time in a paint lounge on location and create art at their own pace.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Additionally, guests will be able to participate in classes where they can receive guidance from an instructor. Gioscio will teach some of the classes herself. She also intends to hire local artists or \u201canyone who is familiar with teaching art.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Youth will be able to visit the studio during the mornings. Gioscio will launch an \u201cOpen Canvas\u201d experience from 8 to 11 a.m where young people can \u201cpaint freely.\u201d After this period, children four or older can attend a guided class.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope to bring a new passion to someone who may not be into art,\u201d she added. \u201cIf it\u2019s not a passion, maybe it\u2019s a hobby for them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gioscio operated booths at a couple community markets earlier this year to introduce the company. She explained that painting provided clients with a bit more \u201cconfidence\u201d in their artistic ability.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Choosing St. Petersburg for the venture also stemmed from Gioscio\u2019s time in the Marine Corps. Originally from California, Gioscio was stationed in Hawaii and at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. The St. Pete Pier area gave her a love for the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n
St. Pete\u2019s art culture, she said, was also attractive.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Finding a location in the EDGE District was a challenge. However, Gioscio felt the downtown area was the right fit for the business.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted an atmosphere I could add to,\u201d she explained, \u201cwith maybe tourists or just the locals on a day or night out. So, I figured that some activity would pair well with all of the great restaurants and bars.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gioscio added that one of her goals was to create a \u201cfaster\u201d and flexible experience for customers. The company will even sell mini canvases as a souvenir or for a quick session.\u00a0<\/p>\n
