PINELLAS PARK, Fla. \u2014 A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after his e-dirt bike collided with a pick-up truck.<\/p>\n
It happened Friday just before 9 p.m., according to Pinellas Park police.<\/p>\n
The teen was driving his bike in the main travel lanes of 70th Avenue. Police say the bike was not equipped with lights and the teen was not wearing a helmet.<\/p>\n
A pick-up truck, also traveling on 70th Avenue, rear ended the dirt bike while it was in motion.<\/p>\n
The driver of the truck, a 71-year-old Pinellas Park man, stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation.<\/p>\n
The teenager was hospitalized with serious injuries and remains in critical condition.<\/p>\n
Police say speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.<\/p>\n
It is illegal to operate an e-dirt bike on the roadways in Florida. State law requires all e-bicycles to be equipped with operational pedals and not exceed 28 mph.<\/p>\n
