A new calculator to determine home property tax savings in Florida is now available online, Gov. Ron DeSantis said on Saturday. <\/p>\n

On X, DeSantis posted a link to Save Our Homes<\/a>, where users are greeted with a quote by him that says “Truly owning private property should not mean perpetually paying rent to the government.”<\/p>\n

Users on the website can then use the calculator by putting their home address. <\/p>\n

Once they enter their address, they will see information related to 2025 estimated taxes levied, estimated taxes levied with up to $250,000 homestead exemption, and annual savings. <\/p>\n

The calculator launched after DeSantis on Wednesday unveiled a proposal aimed at reducing \u2014 and eventually eliminating<\/a> \u2014 property taxes for many Florida homeowners<\/p>\n

The governor\u2019s proposal would exempt up to $250,000 of a home\u2019s taxable value for homesteaded properties, meaning a person\u2019s primary residence.<\/p>\n

Under the proposal, a homeowner with a property valued at $400,000 would only pay taxes on $150,000 of taxable value.<\/p>\n

The new website includes the proposal and a Myth vs Fact section. <\/p>\n

The proposal could appear on the November ballot, but first it must receive approval from at least three-fifths of both the Florida House and Senate.<\/p>\n

Critics said the proposal is a watered-down version of DeSantis\u2019 promise to immediately eliminate all homestead property taxes.
