Wes Mendes got the start on the mound, and Coastal Carolina started its ace pitcher, Cameron Flukey.

The rain started pouring in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Florida State hitting, and the umpires called everyone off the field. The grounds crew rushed to cover the field, and the game has been delayed for over an hour, which has fans thinking about how this will affect both teams.

Will it help or hurt Florida State? The good news is that Coastal Carolina’s pitcher was coming off an injury and was on a pitch count, so it’s unlikely he will return in the game. That means their best arm isn’t available for the next few innings, and they used a few relief pitchers in Friday night’s loss.

🚨 Our game is anticipated to resume at 5:45 pm in the bottom of the 4th inning.

— FSU Baseball (@FSUBaseball) May 30, 2026Florida State has its backs against the wall, but will likely have Coastal Carolina’s ace pitcher out of the game when play resumes.

Florida State’s Wes Mendes probably won’t return in the game (though he has visited the bullpen a few times during the delay). If he doesn’t, he only threw 51 pitches, which means it’s possible he could appear again in another game if Florida State continues to advance through the regional.

They have players like Cooper Whited and Payton Manca who can potentially eat up innings when play resumes. The biggest question mark is the Florida State offense. They only have two hits, though the umpire behind the plate had a very generous strike zone on two called strikes that were not strikes.

If Florida State can come back to win this game, this weather delay may have been a blessing in disguise, with Wes Mendes only throwing 51 pitches. It will be all hands on deck for the pitching staff coming out of the loser’s bracket, but the biggest perceived threat, Coastal Carolina, would be eliminated. There’s still a lot of game left, but Florida State must find a way to win if they want their season to continue.

Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow

Florida State baseball is currently in a weather delay in the fourth inning of its Tallahassee Regional game…

[6
28,30,29
post-290435","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-florida","tag-florida","tag-florida-headlines","tag-florida-news
["GET
