Florida<\/a> football will have several freshmen who could step up early and often for the Gators<\/a> this fall. The program’s 2026 recruiting class featured a host of prospects with plug-and-play ability.<\/p>\n

Standing out is edge rusher KJ Ford<\/a>, who has the clearest path to getting early snaps in Gainesville. With the JACK linebacker role left unclaimed due to veteran players electing for the transfer portal, Ford is an underclassman with a strong chance to start for Brad White’s defense. The 6-foot-4-inch, 250-pound defender arrives from Duncanville High School in Texas<\/a> after recording 17.5 tackles and 8.5 sacks during his senior season.<\/p>\n

Other freshmen to keep an eye on are former four-star prospect, 5-foot-11-inch, 195-pound wide receiver Justin Williams<\/a> from Gainesville, Florida and former four-star prospect, 6-foot, 163-pound cornerback CJ Bronaugh out of Winter Garden, Florida. The pair were among the highest-rated signees in Billy Napier’s final recruiting class.<\/p>\n

Led by Vernell Brown III<\/a>, Florida’s receiving room is incredibly talented and deep, so opportunities will be hard to come by, especially with the arrival of transfer Eric Singleton Jr.<\/a>, but Williams brings a rare pedigree to the unit. He was the first high school player since Devin Hester<\/a> to surpass 1,000 rushing and receiving yards in the same season. The Gators staff has already praised his work ethic during offseason preparation as an early enrollee.<\/p>\n

Bronaugh, the No. 7-ranked cornerback in his class, may have the highest ceiling of any member of Florida’s secondary. Speed may be his greatest attribute, as he was a three-time Florida state sprinting champion. Bronaugh has shutdown potential and could find himself on the field for Jon Sumrall sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n
