(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\">WWSB<\/a>) &#8211; A Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s deputy was arrested on DUI-related charges after a traffic stop in Citrus Park late Saturday, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Deputies conducted a traffic stop near Gunn Highway and Normandie Road at about 11:34 p.m. May 30 and observed signs of impairment from the driver, Richard Michael Garcia, 32, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Deputies said Garcia refused to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2026\/05\/30\/investigators-search-answers-after-construction-workers-discover-human-bones\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2026\/05\/30\/investigators-search-answers-after-construction-workers-discover-human-bones\/\">Investigators search for answers after construction workers discover human bones<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Garcia was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The sheriff\u2019s office said Garcia has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Garcia has been employed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office since November 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WWSB.
