NORTH MIAMI, Fla. \u2014 For the first time ever, a kosher restaurant has received a Michelin Star, and it\u2019s located right here in South Florida. <\/p>\n
\u201cFood has the ability to bring us to places that nothing else can,\u201d said Mutra owner and chef Raz Shabtai. \u201cI feel extremely honored and blessed that God gave me the ability to do something that I can combine cultures together.\u201d<\/p>\n
Within seconds of stepping into Mutra, you can see the unique culinary passion Shabtai has for crafting meals.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s like to win an Oscar,\u201d he said of being awarded a Michelin Star. \u201cIt\u2019s like to win an Emmy. It\u2019s like to get a Grammy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shabtai said his passion for cooking started in Jerusalem with his grandmother, who he named the restaurant after.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe taught me how to cook, she taught me how to be a person, how to be a human,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Shabtai carefully created meals, providing more than just nourishment to those he served. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I used to eat the food, I felt something that says more than I just love you,\u201d he said. \u201cI felt something hugging me in a way that nobody physically could give.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s that love that he carried when introducing South Floridians to his take on Middle Eastern cuisine.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, I feel extremely honored and blessed that God gave me the ability to do something that I can combine cultures together,\u201d said Shabtai. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter your political views or your religion or something. Food is holy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shabtai says his success is also thanks to his dedicated team, with his secret ingredient coming from woman he says is looking down on him. <\/p>\n
\u201cBragging and saying that\u2019s my grandchild,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
The menu at Mutra is rotated every three months, and after receiving the Michelin Star they\u2019re already working on a new menu that is coming out on Monday. <\/p>\n
