ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) \u2014 The garbage truck driver who fatally ran over a woman in St. Petersburg on Saturday knew people were sleeping in the alleyway he was working in, according to his arrest affidavit.<\/p>\n

Nathan Brown<\/a>, 51, was arrested on May 30 after the St. Petersburg Police Department said he ran over and killed a woman while operating a city garbage truck.<\/p>\n

An affidavit from the St. Petersburg PD said a bystander warned Brown that people were sleeping in the alley that he was preparing to reverse into.<\/p>\n

The fatal incident occurred in the alley on 3rd Street North, between Central Avenue and 1st Avenue North. It is a commercial area that houses Jannus Live, Black Cattle Burger, and other popular spots in downtown St. Pete.<\/p>\n

Despite the warning, Brown reversed down the alley where multiple people were sleeping. He loaded the garbage truck, and as he exited, fatally struck a 49-year-old woman.<\/p>\n

He left the scene without stopping to render aid or calling 911, and was arrested later Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

Brown was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and is facing a first-degree felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.<\/p>\n
