PETERSBURG \u2014 Police said a 25-year-old man is in custody and charged with second-degree murder following a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay28.com\/news\/region-pinellas\/police-search-for-suspect-after-man-shot-killed-in-st-pete-sppd\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">deadly shooting in downtown St. Petersburg on May 25<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob Carreras faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Peter-Austin Afentakis.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said shortly before 3 a.m. on May 25, Jacob Carreras and Peter-Austin Afentakis got into a verbal dispute in the 100 block of 1st Avenue North, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD).<\/p>\n<p>Carreras shot at Afentakis, and the 29-year-old man later died of his injuries. <\/p>\n<p>Police issued a warrant for Carreras&#8217; arrest, and the U.S. Marshals Service took him into custody in Hillsborough County, SPPD said.<\/p>\n<p>Carreras will be extradited to Pinellas County to face charges. <\/p>\n<p>The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/ROBERT.BOYD.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Clearwater Beach businesses frustrated with teen takeover<\/p>\n<p>Clearwater Beach businesses say teen takeovers are now costing them money.
