MIAMI (WSVN) – A man reunited with the woman he helped save after she was brutally attacked in a violent assault in downtown Miami that left her severely wounded and partially blind in one eye.<\/p>\n

Weeks after Caitlin Dydzuhn was viciously attacked at random by a homeless man while walking her dog outside of her apartment building along Biscayne Boulevard<\/a>, she was able to reunite with the good Samaritan who broke up the assault to help her.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with 7News on Monday, Cassius Bythewood said he spotted the brutal attack as it happened on May 19.<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard screaming, I saw him on top of a lady, I just saw his hands going up,\u201d said Bythewood<\/p>\n

Bythewood described the moments he ran to the rescue.<\/p>\n

When he saw the man, later identified as 49-year-old Raydean Johnson<\/a>, Bythewood said he broke out into a sprint to help Dydzuhn.<\/p>\n

\u201cSprinted. Sprinted, yes, as fast as I could,\u201d said Bythewood. \u201cHe had a weapon in his hand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Upon reaching the ongoing assault, Bythewood did whatever he could to get Dydzuhn away from her attacker.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing I threw was a kick,\u201d said Bythewood.<\/p>\n

He told 7News he also threw at least one punch as well, which led to him suffering a fractured pinky finger.<\/p>\n

Bythewood said what finally got Johnson away from Dydzuhn was swinging a glass water bottle at the man, smashing it in the process.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just kind of came down this way,\u201d said Bythewood.<\/p>\n

Even after shattering the bottle over Johnson\u2019s head, Bythewood had to kick him again to pry the leash for Dydzuhn\u2019s dog out from under his leg.<\/p>\n

Dydzuhn and her uninjured dog were pulled to safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust letting her know that she was safe,\u201d said Bythewood.<\/p>\n

Authorities arrived a short time later. Following an hours-long standoff, Johnson was taken into custody.<\/p>\n

Dydzuhn suffered extensive injuries all over her face, but was still breathing and alert.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s recovering from the ordeal, and grateful to the heroic effort.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re such an incredible person,\u201d Dydzuhn told Bythewood. \u201cYou saved my life, and it\u2019s something I think about every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bythewood incidentally runs a nonprofit organization in South Florida, having cofounded 10K Steps Miami several months ago.<\/p>\n

The nonprofit, a weekly walking club, is dedicated to keeping women safe.<\/p>\n

The May 19 attack gave Bythewood the opportunity to show his commitment in a different way.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe risked his life for someone he\u2019s never met,\u201d said Judd Rosen, a prominent trial attorney representing Dydzuhn.<\/p>\n

Rosen argued that security around Dydzuhn\u2019s apartment building<\/a>, located at 888 Biscayne Boulevard, should\u2019ve done more to help her.<\/p>\n

Rosen also thanked Bythewood for his heroic actions, which came in part because of his martial arts training.<\/p>\n

Bythewood believes he was meant to be there for that moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very tapped in with my faith, and I do believe that God places in the places that we\u2019re supposed to be,\u201d said Bythewood.<\/p>\n

In a moment many believe they would do the same thing, Bythewood showed he never hesitated.<\/p>\n

Bythewood also sprained his knee during the encounter.<\/p>\n
