A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown St. Petersburg during the early morning hours of May 25.<\/p>\n
According to St. Petersburg Police, officers responded shortly before 3 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of 1st Avenue North near Beach Drive Northeast. When officers arrived, they located a man suffering from gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n
The victim was identified as 29-year-old Peter-Austin Afentakis.<\/p>\n
Investigators determined that Afentakis and 25-year-old Jacob Carreras became involved in a verbal altercation while outside in the 100 block of 1st Avenue North. During the confrontation, police say Carreras shot Afentakis.<\/p>\n
Following the investigation, detectives obtained a warrant charging Carreras with second-degree murder.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Marshals Service located and arrested Carreras in Hillsborough County. He is expected to be extradited to Pinellas County to face the charge.<\/p>\n
Police said the investigation remains active, and additional details have not been released.<\/p>\n
