PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) \u2014 A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown St. Pete on Memorial Day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Just before 3 a.m., officers with the St. Petersburg Police Department were called to 1st Avenue North and Beach Drive Northeast, the area near South Straub Park.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Credit: St. Petersburg Police Department\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/3b43968fd9205da9a785c5727ab6cb94.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Credit: St. Petersburg Police Department<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police said that on that night, an altercation broke out during which 29-year-old Peter-Austin Afentakis was shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On Tuesday, the St. Petersburg Police Department arrested 25-year-old Jacob Carreras and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to St. Petersburg Police, the U.S. Marshals Service took Carreras into custody in Hillsborough County and he will be extradited to Pinellas County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
