A driver was detained after they crashed into a toll booth in Florida, killing an attendant before driving into the ocean on Monday, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The incident happened around 12:40 p.m. in Daytona Beach Shores when the pickup truck crashed into a beach ramp toll booth occupied by the attendant, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office officials said.<\/p>\n
The truck continued onto the beach and into the ocean, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The toll booth attendant received medical attention but didn’t survive her injuries, the sheriff’s office said. She was identified as Tammie Jo Baker.<\/p>\n
Officials said the driver of the truck was detained while the crash was being investigated.<\/p>\n
At a news conference Monday afternoon, Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said Baker was a couple weeks shy of her 63rd birthday.<\/p>\n
Chitwood told reporters that witnesses said the female driver of the truck tried to flee but became stuck in the sand.<\/p>\n
