(WSVN) &#8211; A JetBlue plane heading to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport experienced a near miss with another aircraft on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The passengers aboard JetBlue Flight 1256 landed safely in Fort Lauderdale, and many did not know about the tense moments during the flight.<\/p>\n<p>But audio from the flight and air traffic controllers shows how the close call was avoided.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cJetBlue 1579 maintain 6,000 \u2019til advised. There\u2019s a [Visual Flight Rules] out there that\u2019s been trying to climb at aircraft\u2026 about your two o\u2019clock, eight miles,\u201d said an air traffic controller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWonderful,\u201d responded a pilot.<\/p>\n<p>The pilots were told more about the location of the other aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually, reduce your speed to 210 \u2026VFR traffic 10 o\u2019clock and six miles southeast bound at 4,500 feet\u2026 Indicated unverified\u2026\u201d said the air traffic controller, \u201cThat traffic\u2019s now descending out of 4,200 feet\u2026You can turn back right direct to bunker to intercept\u2026They\u2019re at one o\u2019clock and two miles southwest bound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got them on [Traffic Collision Avoidance System], they\u2019re turning toward us,\u201d said a pilot.<\/p>\n<p>The incident caused the aircraft to be diverted as it headed towards FLL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah I see them also descending. Yeah they are southwest bound\u2026Nope, JetBlue [Flight] 1256\u2026 They appear to be leveling at 44 hundred feet now\u2026 One o\u2019clock and a mile southwest bound,\u201d said the air traffic controller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a TCAS alert, we\u2019re moving JetBlue [Flight] 1256. We\u2019re climbing,\u201d said a pilot.<\/p>\n<p>The flight tracking website FlightAware captured the actions that the pilots took to avoid the other plane, nicknamed Mad Max, over the Everglades.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[JetBlue Flight] 1256, Mad Max, there appears to be south no factor, cross bunker 5,000\u2026 cleared for approach,\u201d said the aircraft controller.<\/p>\n<p>The VFR aircraft was a Beechcraft Duchess owned by SunCity Aviation out of North Perry Airport.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration released a statement reading in part:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[JetBlue] Flight 1256 landed safely at Fort Lauderdale International Airport after receiving an onboard alert that another aircraft was nearby and not in communications with air traffic control. The required separation was maintained\u2026The FAA is investigating\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the incident, the pilot thanked air traffic controller officials for their quick directions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you for your help,\u201d said the pilot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat guy\u2019s insane,\u201d said the air traffic controller, referring to the pilot of the other plane.<\/p>\n<p>SunCity Aviation told 7News that they were operating under federal regulations and claim that their pilot did nothing wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Sunbeam Television Corp.
