SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) \u2014 A series of \u201cteen takeovers\u201d across Tampa Bay have now captured the state attorney general\u2019s attention after some of the events devolved into chaos and violence.<\/p>\n

The latest \u201ctakeover\u201d was set to take place on Tuesday evening at the Beacon theater in Spring Hill, but Hernando County deputies put a stop to it before anyone could begin gathering outside.<\/p>\n

Sheriff Al Nienhuis said some of his deputies had seen flyers advertising the \u201cteen takeover\u201d circulating on social media and decided to take a proactive approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to react to that because we did not want to have some of the same issues that we\u2019ve had in other areas of Tampa Bay, where teens have taken over and some violence has occurred, maybe some vandalism,\u201d Nienhuis said. \u201cWe want our people to feel safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dozens of deputies were stationed around the theater, and the sheriff said they saw a couple carloads of people \u201cthat might have been looking for trouble\u201d show up around the start time of the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they saw us here, they decided to go ahead and get out of the area,\u201d Nienhuis said.<\/p>\n

Deputies in Pasco County took similar action<\/a> Monday night after learning of a planned \u201cteen takeover.\u201d A number of teens showed up to the advertised meeting spot but soon left after seeing dozens of law enforcement officers blocking off the streets.<\/p>\n

Other recent \u201ctakeovers\u201d in the Tampa Bay area have amassed large crowds and resulted in fights and arrests. A 17-year-old was shot<\/a> on Sunday during a \u201ctakeover\u201d in Clearwater Beach, and nearly two dozen people between the ages of 12 and 21 were arrested after chaos broke out<\/a> at a \u201cteen takeover\u201d in downtown Tampa in early May.<\/p>\n

In a post on X<\/a>, Attorney General James Uthmeier shared video of teens running through the streets during the \u201ctakeover\u201d in Clearwater Beach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoever is organizing these \u2018teen takeovers,\u2019 congrats: you have my attention,\u201d Uthmeier wrote. \u201cThis behavior is unacceptable, and I\u2019m having our Statewide Prosecutors develop a plan to investigate and prosecute those who are responsible for these events.\u201d<\/p>\n

The state attorney general has not provided any further details on what that plan could look like, but on Tuesday wrote, \u201cStay tuned. More to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, local law enforcement agencies have said they plan to continue monitoring social media for these events and will be working to ensure things don\u2019t get out of hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can react very quickly,\u201d Nienhuis said. \u201cSo again, if you\u2019re looking for trouble, take it someplace else.\u201d<\/p>\n
