The Miami Dolphins added veteran wide receiver Jalen Reagor on Tuesday. What does (and doesn\u2019t) it mean? <\/p>\n

The Miami Dolphins<\/a>\u2018 wide receiver room got another addition on Tuesday. With three rookies set up for opportunities and a slew of journeyman veterans also in tow, the Dolphins are adding veteran wide receiver Jalen Reagor<\/a> to their ranks. <\/p>\n

The move isn\u2019t exactly a vote of confidence for the names already in the room \u2014 but Reagor doesn\u2019t exactly come with a lot of overhead. So the question becomes what should (and shouldn\u2019t) we assume about the Miami Dolphins\u2019 intentions with Jalen Reagor. <\/p>\n

What we should (and shouldn\u2019t) assume about the Miami Dolphins signing wide receiver Jalen Reagor<\/p>\n

Reagor, who was once a first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has just 22 receptions since the start of the 2022 season. He\u2019s the definition of a \u201cscratch-off\u201d ticket and there\u2019s no harm in seeing if perhaps the Miami Dolphins can find something there. The probability of that coming to reality? It feels like the ultimate long-shot. He\u2019s 27 years old and did not log any snaps last season. <\/p>\n

Assuming Reagor is signed as an intended 53-man roster addition for the season is likely off the mark. But assuming that the Miami Dolphins may be wanting to see more from the group than they have this summer? That\u2019s likely a fair conclusion to make. Especially since half the projected top of the room is rookies and one of them can\u2019t play right now.<\/p>\n

Rookies are rookies \u2014\u00a0and one of Miami\u2019s third-round picks isn\u2019t physically able to go right now. Chris Bell\u2019s return from an ACL injury will take time. That leaves Kevin Coleman and Caleb Douglas to try to outperform the rookie curve. Expecting too much too soon is a hopeful proposition but one we may not see come to be. <\/p>\n

But given that Miami is playing the long-term with this build, those players feel like good bets to make the roster. So, too, does Malik Washington. <\/p>\n

For Reagor, that puts him firmly in competition with Jalen Toblert and Tutu Atwell. But both players received guaranteed salaries in 2026 \u2014\u00a0even if the salary is a minimum salary. It adds an extra layer to Reagor\u2019s fight. He\u2019ll not only need to outperform those two, but he\u2019ll need to do so at such a rate that would force the Miami Dolphins to accept the additional dead cap that comes with releasing them (barring a trade). As you well know, cap is tight in 2026. So assuming anything other than a cameo appearance this offseason for Reagor may be a bit premature. <\/p>\n
