{"id":295947,"date":"2026-06-04T16:13:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T16:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/295947\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T16:13:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T16:13:13","slug":"video-15-year-old-on-e-bike-crashes-into-florida-deputy-patrol-car","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/295947\/","title":{"rendered":"VIDEO: 15-year-old on e-bike crashes into Florida deputy patrol car"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 15-year-old was not seriously hurt, but deputies say it &#8220;could have ended very differently.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>BUNNELL, Fla. \u2014 Florida law enforcement is urging teenagers to be safer on e-bikes after a video shows a 15-year-old crashing into a deputy&#8217;s patrol vehicle while riding one.<\/p>\n<p>The Flagler County Sheriff&#8217;s Office shared video of a Wednesday afternoon incident in Bunnell in which the teen ran a stop sign and collided with a deputy&#8217;s vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>FCSO says the deputy had the right of way and was traveling about 19 mph.<\/p>\n<p>The 15-year-old was not seriously hurt, but the sheriff&#8217;s office says it &#8220;could have ended very differently.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a powerful reminder that e-bikes and e-scooters move fast, and that a few seconds of caution can prevent a tragedy,&#8221; the agency said.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re riding an e-bike, authorities say to follow these rules:<\/p>\n<p>Carry a photo ID: Every e-bike operator must carry a government-issued photo ID, including a driver&#8217;s license, passport, or a school ID and present it if a deputy asks.Helmets for riders under 16: Anyone under 16 operating or riding as a passenger on a bicycle or e-bike must wear a properly fitted, securely fastened helmet. Parents, the law puts this one on you. \u00a0You must be at least 11 to operate an e-bike on public roads, paths, and sidewalks.Obey the rules of the road: Stop signs and signals apply to you. On sidewalks and paths, yield to pedestrians and give an audible signal before passing.Light up at night: a white front light visible from 500 feet and a red rear light and reflector visible from 600 feet must be attached.Keep your class label: Your e-bike must keep its manufacturer Class 1, 2, or 3 label.
