FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A K-9 search that uncovered the suspected weapon helped Fort Pierce<\/a> Police quickly track down and arrest a man accused of shooting a teenage girl.<\/p>\n

Officers with the Fort Pierce Police Department<\/a> said they were called to North 19th Street, off Avenue D, on June 2, for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a nearby hospital, and police said her injuries were not considered life-threatening.<\/p>\n

From there, the investigation moved fast.<\/p>\n

Police say officers, detectives, and K-9 units all jumped into action, working together to piece together what happened. With help from community members who provided information, detectives were able to quickly develop leads and identify a suspect.<\/p>\n

One of the biggest breaks in the case came from the department\u2019s K-9 <\/a>unit. During a search of the area, the team located a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, a key piece of evidence that helped move the case forward.<\/p>\n

That work led to the arrest of 18-year-old Jah\u2019shaun Crosby later that same day.<\/p>\n

Jail records show Crosby, who was born June 27, 2007, was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on June 3 at 11:47 a.m. He is facing an attempted murder charge and is being held on a $500,000 bond.<\/p>\n

Police say the case is still under investigation, and detectives are continuing to gather evidence.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, officers are thanking the community for stepping up and sharing information so quickly, saying that cooperation played a major role in how fast they were able to make an arrest.<\/p>\n
