TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Capital Region Transportation Planning Agency (CRTPA) is holding public meetings in two weeks to discuss a multi-use trail connecting Chattahoochee and Quincy.<\/p>\n
The planning agency began a feasibility study on the proposed trail in July of last year and now wants public input. The US 90 multi-use 22-mile paved trail is expected to begin at the Jackson County line in Chattahoochee to State Road 12 at the Quincy Bypass\/Julia Monroe Woodward Highway. <\/p>\n
The trail is planned to be 10-12 feet wide and used for both recreation and transportation purposes, including cycling, running and walking, according to CRTPA. The agency says there aren\u2019t any environmental concerns with constructing the trail, but elevation changes and steep grades may lead to mobility challenges. <\/p>\n
The feasibility study also notes that this trail could help lower tension between traffic and travelers. A CRTPA existing conditions analysis conducted in Dec. 2025 reports that from 2020 to 2024, the US 90 and Julia Munroe Woodward Highway corridor saw more than 900 crashes resulting in 12 fatalities.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrequent and severe crashes create an environment of fear and uncertainty for those who walk, bike, or drive along the corridor, discouraging active transportation and limiting community mobility,\u201d CRTPA said.<\/p>\n
With more reliable transportation, CRTPA\u2019s feasibility study says the trail could support small businesses, schools, parks and public facilities in Chattahoochee and Quincy. <\/p>\n

The trail could also be instrumental in creating a link between CRTPA\u2019s regional trail system and the Florida Department of Transportation\u2019s (FDOT) Sun Trail network. This could lead to a broader connectivity of Florida\u2019s trail networks as a whole.<\/p>\n
Cyclists on the proposed US 90 West multi-use trail could also connect to Tallahassee\u2019s trail network and other coastal destinations, according to CRTPA.<\/p>\n
The US 90 West Multi-Use Trail Feasibility Study is funded by Florida\u2019s Shared-Use Non-Motorized (SUN) Trail program, per CRTPA.<\/p>\n
CRTPA is holding a public meeting in Chattahoochee City Hall on June 17 at 5 p.m. and at the Gadsden County Board of Commissioners building in Quincy on June 18 at 5 p.m. <\/p>\n
According to the feasibility study\u2019s timeline, the final feasibility report will follow the public meetings in July 2026.<\/p>\n
