Ron DeSantis\u2019 signature contains positive news for homeownership.\u00a0<a id=\"m_7254796663814350013m_-6619074503632433185x_m_5718353051088814692OWA8385464d-029a-8338-48a3-c166099719b4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.floridarealtors.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.floridarealtors.org\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780749618646000&amp;usg=AOvVaw267tJ5uNH1fod1DP2skSOQ\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Florida Realtors<\/a>, the 230,000-member trade association that advocates for real estate professionals, consumers and property rights across the state, calls the budget a meaningful step toward a more affordable and resilient Florida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFlorida Realtors applauds Florida lawmakers for concluding the 2026 budget special session with a spending plan that continues to support housing affordability, protect property owners and safeguard the natural resources that make our state a place so many people want to call home,\u201d said\u00a0Chuck Bonfiglio, the group\u2019s 2026 President.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Housing investments lead the list. Lawmakers ultimately added $50 million to the <a id=\"m_7254796663814350013m_-6619074503632433185x_m_5718353051088814692OWAbf7a6a7c-fdf4-9bc5-b4a4-cb494bd6094b\" href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/798424-budget-conference-lawmakers-want-to-spend-millions-on-affordable-housing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/798424-budget-conference-lawmakers-want-to-spend-millions-on-affordable-housing\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780749618646000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2pCWAJvAAEuhYGZx9Xpj0Y\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Hometown Heroes Housing Program<\/a>,\u00a0which helps teachers, healthcare workers, first responders and other eligible first-time buyers with down payments and closing costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMore money for Hometown Heroes helps hardworking Floridians in our communities get past what is often the biggest hurdle to homeownership: the upfront cost,\u201d Bonfiglio said. \u201cA little help with the down payment and closing costs is often what turns a steady paycheck into a set of keys, giving more first-time buyers the chance to build real equity and live in the communities they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdwcommunications.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-797823 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/MDW_728x90_2026.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lawmakers put $236.5 million toward state and local affordable housing, including $165.7 million for the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (<a id=\"m_7254796663814350013m_-6619074503632433185x_m_5718353051088814692OWA51a6ff63-9828-c056-b67c-c92c7374b16f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.floridahousing.org\/programs\/special-programs\/ship---state-housing-initiatives-partnership-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.floridahousing.org\/programs\/special-programs\/ship---state-housing-initiatives-partnership-program&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780749618646000&amp;usg=AOvVaw10SUujdL2PVrZ49zf6Bk8e\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">SHIP<\/a>) and $70.8 million for the State Apartment Incentive Loan (<a id=\"m_7254796663814350013m_-6619074503632433185x_m_5718353051088814692OWA76a72ef4-877a-6447-eb3e-956a8dac34ab\" href=\"https:\/\/www.floridahousing.org\/programs\/developers-multifamily-programs\/state-apartment-incentive-loan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.floridahousing.org\/programs\/developers-multifamily-programs\/state-apartment-incentive-loan&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780749618646000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0Yx13r_80y9tlRHVu9C9sh\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">SAIL<\/a>), expanding ownership assistance at the community level and growing the supply of affordable rentals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The budget also reverts roughly $405 million in unused funds to the <a id=\"m_7254796663814350013m_-6619074503632433185x_m_5718353051088814692OWA15d28547-7832-0603-8439-33ed46de5992\" href=\"https:\/\/mysafeflhome.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mysafeflhome.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780749618646000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1xEqmrTb7eZM24HXx1pqXg\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">My Safe Florida Home<\/a>\u00a0($378 million) and\u00a0<a id=\"m_7254796663814350013m_-6619074503632433185x_m_5718353051088814692OWAffe1bae7-4472-02a7-8491-3da19dde5e79\" href=\"https:\/\/myfloridacfo.com\/mysafeflhome\/mysafefloridacondo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/myfloridacfo.com\/mysafeflhome\/mysafefloridacondo&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780749618646000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1mSMOw2vU-qXQp8RAH_mgX\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">My Safe Florida Condominium<\/a> ($27 million) programs, helping owners harden their homes and buildings against hurricanes and lower their insurance premiums.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another $1.7 billion goes to the Everglades and water quality, an investment Florida Realtors says is one of the primary drivers for people choosing to live in Florida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo one moves to Florida for the mountains. They come here for our beautiful beaches, amazing lakes and other natural wonders that make our state so unique. Thankfully, we have lawmakers who recognize that and are investing accordingly,\u201d Bonfiglio said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Legislature has protected private property rights in recent years by combating home, commercial property and vacation rental squatters. This Session, lawmakers continued those efforts by making it a felony to occupy a rental using forged documents or a false identity and letting landlords quickly remove anyone who gains access through fraud (<a id=\"m_7254796663814350013m_-6619074503632433185x_m_5718353051088814692OWAfc4dc061-02d9-687d-6aa3-efec9a11e60e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flhouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=84158&amp;SessionId=113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.flhouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId%3D84158%26SessionId%3D113&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1780749618646000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3_m9o0uOLIGTHKgkU3W_4U\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">HB 1293<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimforcongress.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-756307\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/JS-728x90-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"729\" height=\"91\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another bill modernizes an existing property tax disclosure that brings additional transparency to prospective homebuyers.
